WHAT:

Street Dance has been our most popular dance style since we introduced classes to our school in 2017.

Street dance refers to dance styles – regardless of country of origin – that evolved outside of dance studios in any available open space, such as streets, dance parties, block parties, parks, school yards, raves, and nightclubs.

Street is improvisational and social in nature, encouraging interaction and contact with spectators and other dancers. These dances are a part of the vernacular culture of the geographical area that they come from.

The hip-hop dance style B-boying, and the funk-style Popping and Locking, are some of the most popular Street dance styles. These forms of hip-hop dance are the most prominently practiced, and commercialised versions have been professionally developed and choreographed for dance routines in pop, hip-hop, electronic, and R&B music videos. B-boying helped bring about Street dance crew culture, whereby dance crews would learn various Street dance styles for impression and competition. Street dance has evolved between people in a social environment, dancers create their own style and moves. Street dances constantly evolve.

From September to December, our Street Dance classes work on street dance technique and foundations as well as working on short routines ready for our medal test examinations. These medal tests are through our dance board, the IDTA, and give our dancers the chance to work through the medal test system gaining confidence and feedback to help them grow.

From January, our Street Dancers work on routines ready for our annual show, the highlight of our year!

How to join us:

We offer a 3 week trial because we believe it takes more than one class to get a true feel for the class your child is trialling, the studio, the teacher and to see if this is something they really want to commit to moving forwards.

For just £15 for 3 weeks, your child can trial any class they wish and you can decide together whether EP DANCE is right for your child and your family.
