classes

We're proud to offer classes in a wide range of theatre dance styles, creating an all-rounded dancer. All our students work towards our annual show, competitions, special performances and much more.

Our classes are categorised into age groups, however a mix of experience, age and ability are all deciding factors of which class a student will be placed into.

ballet, tap & modern

age 2-18

BALLET

This classical style of expressive movement has something to offer for everyone. Ballet dates back to the 17th century and the conventional steps, grace and fluidity of movement are still found in Ballet today. Choreographers have been influenced by composers through the ages. Ballet has a technique which is the foundation of all dance.

TAP

Tap is rhythm – rhythm is tap. Its origins are many and varied. Americans claim its origin dates from the African Jazz age. The Irish stake their claim to the Jigs and Step Dancing. The English relate back to northern Clog Dancers but whichever one chooses to believe, Tap is as popular today as it was in the heyday of the great Fred Astaire and Gene Kelly musicals.

MODERN

Modern Jazz is fun. You will learn to develop many different movements reaching to a broad choice of varying rhythms and musical styles. Classes are structured to begin to prepare the physical strength and flexibility required to demonstrate emotion through interpretation of any musical genre.

frequently asked questions

my child has never danced before, can they still join?

Of course! Our classes are for all abilities. As long as you aren't attending another dance school, dancers of all abilities are welcome at our school.

do you offer taster sessions or trials?

We offer a 3 week trial for just £15 where you can try out any class. We believe that children need to experience our class more than once to get a real feel of the school which is why we don't offer a one week trial.

how do I pay for classes?

We've made our payments really simple for classes - once you sign up online and have been approved into the class (if there are spaces available), you will receive an email from us with instructions of how to pay for your classes. It's a really simple system which takes 90 seconds to sign up - a direct debit will then be taken from your account on the 1st of every month so you don't even have to think about it!

can I pay for class fees and uniform with cash?

EP DANCE is a cashless business. All class fees are taken through our payment partner GoCardless and uniforms can be ordered directly from our online uniform shop.

can parents stay and watch classes?

Unfortunately we don’t allow parents to watch all classes; this usually causes a lot of children to get distracted, however every so often we let parents and families come in and watch on our open days! Nevertheless we do allow parents of our under 5's students to sit in their first class.

does my child have to wear a uniform?

Yes! Uniform is an important aspect of dance training, for discipline and health and safety. Uniform promotes the feeling of being part of a team.

Full uniform is expected from all students following their 3 week trial as well as near hair (tied up off the face for Street Dance and in a ballet bun for all other classes).

do students take part in shows?

Yes! We hold a showcase every summer in a professional theatre which all students are invited to take part in. Our students also have the opportunity to take part in examinations with the IDTA, competitions and much more!

We also have half term dance camps and a number of social events throughout the year.

"EP DANCE helped me get back into dancing after quitting it for a few years and as it increased my confidence it helped me branch out into other area of performances arts. This encouraged me to pursue acting at uni when I am today"
